Free School Meals and Universal Free School Meals.
Pupil Premium is additional funding which the school can receive from the government to improve educational opportunities for children of families on low income.
This grant includes the provision of Free School Meals for eligible families for all year groups in school.
The Universal Free School Meal scheme, which the government introduced in September 2014, is offered to children in Reception, Year One and Year Two.
The Mayor of London, has provided funding to extend Universal Free School Meals to include children in Years 3-6, who attend state funded schools in London. This was initially for the academic year 2023-2024 and will continue through 2024-2025.
If your child is having a packed lunch or is receiving a Universal Free School Meal, the school asks all parents/carers to claim their entitlement to Pupil Premium/Free School Meals if they think they are eligible.
It would actively benefit both your child and the school if you do, because the school receives extra funding from the government to support your child.
Here are some of the ways we use this additional funding for families who qualify:
- To cover the cost of before and after school clubs (e.g. football, dance, table tennis)
- To reduce the cost of instrumental music lessons
- To reduce the cost of extra-curricular visits such as the Y6 residential journey
- To provide additional learning support for your child’s learning and/or well-being
In order to claim for Pupil Premium/Free School Meals a parent/carer must be claiming one of the following benefits:
- Income Support;
- Income based Jobseekers Allowance;
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
- Child Tax Credit provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) that does not exceed £16,190;
- The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit.
- Universal Credit
